Prof. Mashauri joined the HOPE’s Ambassador Programme:
Prof. MASHAURI is SADC-WATERNET Professorial Chair holder of IWRM at Polytechnic of Namibia since February 2010. Prof Mashauri graduated with a PhD in 1986 in water resources engineering at the Tampere University of Technology (TUT) in Finland. Since graduation Dr. Mashauri has been teaching and researching in the field water engineering at the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. He has over 30 refereed articles in peer reviewed journal (regional and international). He has several conference and workshop papers captured in proceedings. Has supervised over ten PhD Candidates and over thirty Masters Candidates. The combined excellent academic work has led him to rise the academic ladder to the highest that is full Professor at University of Dar es Salaam in 2009.
Since 2008 the Regional WATERNET grouping of almost all Research Institutions and Universities in the SADC established five Professorial Chairs to carry on research and teaching on IWRM issues. One of the Chairs was endowed to the Polytechnic of Namibia. The first Chair holder at PoN is Prof Mashauri. The main aim of the Chair was to establish a Master degree programme at PoN so as to propel further the IWRM aspirations of the region. The programme was successfully established and is now in its third of running. So among others Poly is running its own home grown Masters Programme in IWRM but is also taking part in running the part of the Regional Masters programme. The specialization being water supply and sanitation.
Professor Mashauri has been instrumental in submitting proposal to EU and AU Water Facilities for funding research in the area of Water and Sanitation. Quite number of them have successfully been funded and are on course. He has been involved in organising and running short courses in the area of environmental water flows and sustainable sanitation and water management.
Prof Mashauri published a book waste water treatment and disposal in 2011. The book is widely used at PoN for teaching several modules at under and post graduate levels. A drat book on management of solid waste is in advance stage towards being published.
